Ashok Kharat, a self-styled numerologist and godman, has been arrested by the Nashik Crime Branch on serious allegations of serial sexual exploitation, drugging, and black magic. The case against Kharat has drawn significant attention not only due to the nature of the allegations but also because of his connections with various political figures and celebrities in Maharashtra.
The allegations against Kharat came to light after a 35-year-old woman reported systemic abuse that began in November 2022. According to the complaint, Kharat allegedly used intoxicants mixed in food and water to drug women before sexually assaulting them. This disturbing pattern of behavior has led to Kharat being booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rape, criminal intimidation, and sexual harassment. Additionally, he faces charges under the Maharashtra Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013.
In a raid on Kharat’s office, law enforcement officials seized a pen drive containing 58 obscene video clips, further complicating his legal situation. Kharat’s influence peaked in November 2022 when then-Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited his temple, raising questions about the extent of his connections within the political landscape.
The Maharashtra government has responded to the allegations by forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly investigate the claims against Kharat. This move indicates the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the case, especially given the potential implications for political figures who may have been associated with Kharat.
Political reactions have been swift and varied. Sanjay Raut, a prominent political figure, remarked, “Maharashtra’s Epstein file has been opened,” highlighting the gravity of the situation and the potential for widespread ramifications. In contrast, Rupali Chakankar stated, “I have no knowledge about Kharat’s personal life or the allegations made against him,” indicating a desire to distance herself from the controversy.
Yogesh Kadam, another political figure, assured the public that the investigation would be impartial, stating, “The investigation will be impartial. Anyone found involved will face action.” This statement reflects a commitment to transparency and accountability in the wake of the allegations.
Kharat’s arrest has not only raised serious legal questions but has also triggered a political controversy in Maharashtra due to his connections with various politicians and celebrities. Photos and videos have surfaced showing political leaders in Kharat’s company, raising concerns about political patronage and the potential for complicity in his alleged crimes.
As the investigation unfolds, Kharat has been remanded to police custody until March 24, 2026. Observers are closely watching the developments, with many anticipating that the case could lead to further revelations about the intersection of politics and personal conduct in Maharashtra. Details remain unconfirmed, but the implications of this case could resonate throughout the political landscape for some time.
