The case against Ashok Kharat, a self-styled godman and astrologer, has taken a disturbing turn with new allegations of human sacrifice and extortion. The Nashik District Sessions Court has remanded Kharat to five days of police custody as investigations deepen into his alleged criminal activities.
Authorities have filed two additional rape FIRs against Kharat, bringing the total to multiple charges involving serious offenses. The prosecution claims he is linked to five instances of human sacrifice, a shocking revelation that has sent ripples through the community.
During the investigation, police uncovered assets worth approximately ₹40 crore, indicating the extent of Kharat’s alleged illegal operations. Furthermore, it was revealed that he has traveled to 13 different countries, raising questions about the international dimensions of his activities.
In a significant development, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) recovered a revolver, 21 cartridges, and ₹6 lakh in cash from Kharat’s possession, suggesting a well-organized operation. Victims have reported experiencing nausea after consuming substances provided by Kharat, further complicating the case.
Trupti Desai, a prominent activist, has been vocal about the case, stating, “Ashok Kharat is a pervert. This perversion is eating away at the fabric of Maharashtra.” She emphasized the need for justice, asserting that if a crime is committed, the perpetrator should not be shielded.
Public Prosecutor Ajay Misar has expressed concerns about Kharat’s potential involvement in human sacrifice and illegal hunting, indicating the serious nature of the allegations. Kharat, however, has denied knowledge of the snakes and tigers allegedly used in his threats, claiming, “I have no knowledge of snakes or tigers, I am hearing it for the first time.”
