“Do not ruin your life by falling into the trap of betting,” cautioned the Hyderabad Police, as they ramp up efforts to combat illegal gambling activities during the IPL season.
With the excitement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) around the corner, Hyderabad Police have issued a warning against betting syndicates that have resurfaced in new forms despite previous bans on betting apps. The police are taking a proactive stance, stating that strict action will be taken against those involved in online and offline gambling.
V.C. Sajjanar, the police commissioner, emphasized the risks associated with betting, urging citizens to consider the potential consequences. “Do not put your family’s future at risk,” he stated, highlighting the devastating impact that gambling can have on families.
Fraudsters are increasingly using social media platforms such as Telegram, WhatsApp, and Instagram to lure unsuspecting users into betting scams. Local bookies are particularly targeting youth, pushing them into debt and financial ruin.
In response to these alarming trends, the Hyderabad Police are closely monitoring both online operations and offline betting networks. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious betting activity by contacting Dial 100 or the police WhatsApp number at 94906 16555.
Despite the government’s previous efforts to ban hundreds of betting apps, illegal activities continue to thrive. Sajjanar reiterated the police’s commitment to tackling this issue, stating, “We will take strict action against social media influencers who promote these dangerous apps just for money.”
As the IPL season approaches, betting apps are ramping up their promotions, with offers such as Parimatch’s 1000% welcome bonus up to ₹70,000 and Stake’s Early Six offer. Such enticing promotions are attracting many, but the police warn of the hidden dangers.
Betting not only leads to heavy debts but can also destroy families, making the police’s warning all the more critical. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any illegal activities.
As Hyderabad prepares for the IPL, the police’s message is clear: gambling is a trap that can have dire consequences. Citizens are reminded to stay informed and cautious during this high-stakes season.
