Instagram Messages Outage Reported
On March 11, 2023, thousands of Instagram users began reporting issues with sending and receiving messages. The outage started around 2 AM in the United States and 7:40 AM IST in India, with users in the U.S. experiencing the highest concentration of problems.
By early morning, over 10,000 complaints had been logged on Downdetector, indicating significant access issues. According to reports, 71 percent of these complaints were related to problems accessing the app itself, while 20 percent of users noted server connection issues. Additionally, 5 percent reported problems with their Instagram feed or timeline not loading.
Users took to other social media platforms to confirm the outage, expressing their frustrations. One user tweeted, “Are Instagram dms down or… am I cooked?” Another commented, “My messages, my contacts on Instagram, I can’t use the search tool or even scroll up! The whole thing is just broken right now.”
Reports indicated that around 250 users in India and approximately 170 users in the United Kingdom were also affected. Complaints peaked early in the morning, highlighting the widespread nature of the issue.
Despite the volume of complaints, Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has not commented on the outage. Users speculated about the reasons behind the disruption, with some suggesting a potential link to the ongoing US-Iran war; however, this relationship remains unconfirmed.
The current state of the outage is still unclear, as users continue to face difficulties with the messaging feature. Many are left wondering when the service will be restored, with no official updates from Meta at this time.
