Parul University Evacuated Following Bomb Threat
“So far, nothing suspicious has been found on the campus, but sanitising the entire campus will take a couple of hours,” stated a police officer responding to a bomb threat that led to the evacuation of Parul University on March 10, 2026.
The threat was communicated via an email, prompting immediate action from local authorities, including police teams from the Local Crime Branch, Special Operations Group, and Waghodia Police Station. The university, which has over 65,000 students enrolled across various courses, was forced to cancel internal examinations scheduled for the day.
The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad was deployed to thoroughly search the campus. Fortunately, no explosives were discovered during the search operation, alleviating initial fears among students and staff.
The bomb threat email reportedly originated from hacked Outlook and Hotmail IDs linked to a compromised-accounts marketplace. This incident has raised concerns regarding email security and identity verification protocols at the university.
In addition to the university’s evacuation, the incident caused significant traffic congestion in the Waghodia area, as students and staff were directed to leave the premises swiftly.
The university has announced that the postponed examinations will be rescheduled for a day after the current exam schedule concludes. This decision aims to minimize disruption to students’ academic progress.
Authorities are investigating the email trail, with Ahmedabad cybercrime teams involved in tracing the source of the threat. The bomb threat was part of a series of similar emails sent to various government departments across the state, indicating a broader issue that may need addressing.
This incident has highlighted vulnerabilities in email security and identity checks, prompting discussions on the need for improved safety measures at educational institutions.
As investigations continue, the university community remains on alert, with officials assuring that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure student safety.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the investigation and any potential suspects related to the bomb threat.
