PM Kisan 22nd Installment to Boost Farmer Support

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to release the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme from Guwahati, Assam, on March 13, 2026. This initiative will see an impressive transfer of over ₹18,640 crore directly into the bank accounts of more than 9.32 crore farmer families across India.

With this installment, the total amount disbursed under the PM Kisan scheme will surpass ₹4.27 lakh crore. Each eligible farmer family receives ₹6,000 per year, distributed in three equal installments, providing crucial financial support to sustain agricultural activities.

Notably, over 2.15 crore women farmers are expected to benefit from this installment, reflecting the government’s commitment to empowering women in agriculture. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a prominent figure in the government, highlighted the significance of this assistance, stating, “This timely assistance helps farmers purchase essential agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides.”

The PM-KISAN scheme, initiated in February 2019, has played a vital role in boosting demand within the rural economy and reducing farmers’ dependence on debt. Chouhan remarked, “The PM-KISAN scheme has boosted demand in the rural economy, reduced farmer’s dependence on debt, and encouraged agricultural investment.” This scheme operates through India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, ensuring transparency and efficiency in fund distribution.

Farmers can easily complete their e-KYC from home using a face-authentication-based mobile app, which simplifies the verification process. Additionally, the ‘Know Your Status (KYS)’ module allows beneficiaries to check their payment status and eligibility, further enhancing accessibility and transparency.

To ensure that benefits reach only genuine farmers, the government has introduced a ‘Voluntary Surrender’ facility for affluent farmers, along with a robust verification system to remove ineligible or deceased beneficiaries from the list. Chouhan emphasized the government’s focus on ensuring that PM-KISAN benefits reach only those who truly need them, stating, “Prime Minister Shri Modi has placed special emphasis on ensuring that PM-KISAN benefits reach only genuine and eligible farmers.”

As the PM-KISAN scheme continues to evolve, observers anticipate further enhancements in its implementation and outreach. The AI-based voice chatbot ‘Kisan-eMitra’ provides information related to PM-KISAN in 11 regional languages, making it more accessible to diverse farmer communities. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any upcoming changes or expansions to the scheme, but the government’s commitment to farmer welfare remains evident.
