“Chris Paul is more famous for his State Farm commercials than his postseason basketball achievements”: Skip Bayless blasts the Suns veteran for his poor playoffs record

Analyst Skip Bayless blasts Phoenix Suns veteran Chris Paul for not having a successful postseason record.

Chris Paul is one of the best pass-first point guards the league has ever witnessed. Ever since CP3 joined the league as an “undersized” 20-year-old, he had an immediate influence on the New Orleans Hornets. Despite being only 6-foot it didn’t take a lot of time before Paul established himself as a superstar.

No one can deny the impact Paul has had on whatever team he has been on. CP3 has single-handedly re-energised whatever team he has been on. And what better examples than his success over the last two seasons. Landing in OKC, he took a young and inexperienced team, who only had a 0.2% chance of making the postseason, as the 5th seed in the West.

This season too, Paul’s narrative has pretty much been the same. Getting acquired by the Phoenix Suns, he took a team that finished 10th in the West last season, to clinch the 2nd seed this year. And took the franchise to their first postseason appearance since 2010.

“I am having a hard time putting Chris Paul in my top 15 point guards list”: Skip Bayless

Despite all the successes Paul has had, analyst Skip Bayless criticised the 15-year veteran. Sure, Chris hasn’t won a ring yet, but that doesn’t take away what else he has achieved in his illustrious career. Yet, Bayless blasted the Suns veteran:

“I am having a hard time in putting him (Chris Paul) in my top 15. I need more in the postseason cause I have seen it in the regular season. It’s spectacular – 11 All-Star appearances, 4 times he has won the assists title, 6 times he’s won the steals title, 9 times he has been All-Defense.”

“And what do you have to show for it in the post? Well, you got to one conference finals and you pulled your hamstring right on queue when you’re up 3-2 with James Harden in Houston…”

“So it is crucial for Chris’ legacy that he finish off the Nuggets, beat the Clippers in the next round and get to the Nets in the finals… I would love to see Chris get to the finals and I think he is going to play the Nets.”

“In the big picture of Chris Paul’s career so far, seriously, I think he is more famous for the State Farm commercials than he is for his basketball achievements in the postseason.”

Having a career playoffs average of 20.3 points, 8.3 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game, Paul has surely had a successful individual campaign. However, he has a great chance to lead this determined Phoenix team to the finals. And being 2-0 up against Denver, the Suns are one step closer to their goal. Despite the result, Chris ‘Point God’ Paul, will go down as the wittiest point guard to play the sport.
