Bangladesh Cricket Board Initiates Media Rights Tender

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formally invited Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and financial offers for the worldwide media rights concerning several bilateral international home series scheduled for 2026–27. This move signals preparations for upcoming matches involving the Bangladesh National Cricket Team (Men), to be hosted in Bangladesh.

The tender document specifically targets reputable television broadcasters, digital platforms, marketing agencies, consortiums, and firms interested in acquiring these rights. Interested parties can obtain the full EOI document from the BCB‘s Dhaka office starting July 2, 2026, with a deadline for bid submissions set for July 22, 2026. Bids can be submitted either physically at the BCB Management Office at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, or electronically via a designated official email address.

Upcoming International Home Series

The media rights package covers several significant tours, with the India Team’s Tour of Bangladesh 2026 prominently listed. This tour is slated to include three One-Day Internationals (ODI) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20i). The inclusion of this series in the tender has generated discussion, particularly as a six-match white-ball tour between the two nations was postponed previously.

Other series included in the tender document are:

West Indies Team’s Tour of Bangladesh 2026, featuring two Test matches.

England Team’s Tour of Bangladesh 2027, also comprising two Test matches.

Pakistan Team’s Tour of Bangladesh 2027, which will consist of five ODI matches.

The placement of the India series at the top of the tender document highlights its commercial significance and strategic importance for Bangladesh cricket.

Context of the India-Bangladesh Series

The proposed India tour was originally scheduled for last year but was postponed due to diplomatic tensions. Changes in both cricket administration within Bangladesh and the political landscape have since occurred, potentially reopening the possibility of the tour proceeding. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has maintained a cautious stance on the matter, indicating that its decisions regarding bilateral tours are guided by directives from the Indian government.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia clarified that the board’s approach is not influenced by internal political changes at the BCB. He stated that the BCCI adheres to the policies set by the Government of India concerning participation in bilateral and multinational sporting events. This position underscores that international cricket tours often involve broader diplomatic and political considerations beyond purely sporting interests.

The initiation of a formal commercial process by the BCB, such as selling media rights, suggests a significant level of confidence that the tour will eventually take place. For Bangladesh cricket, successfully hosting India is anticipated to provide a substantial financial boost through television broadcasting rights, digital streaming agreements, sponsorship deals, and other commercial partnerships. This development offers renewed hope for cricket fans in both nations that the series could proceed as planned in September.

Despite these encouraging developments, official confirmation from the BCCI regarding the tour is still awaited. The BCB‘s decision to begin the media rights process represents a clear indication that preparations are actively progressing for these upcoming international home series.
