Previously, users faced abrupt power cuts when their balance ran out, leading to inconvenience. The new system enables a smoother experience by providing consumers with a clearer billing timeline.

Key features of the new billing process:

• The prepaid smart meters will function similarly to postpaid systems.
• Bills will be issued monthly, covering consumption from the first to the last day of each month.
• Outstanding bills prior to April 30 can be paid in 10 easy installments.
• Consumers will receive their bills directly via SMS and WhatsApp.

Energy Minister A.K. Sharma emphasized that this initiative prioritizes consumer convenience. He stated, “This step has been taken with the consumers’ ease in mind.” The minister also noted that the updated billing system will provide timely information about bills.

Additionally, consumers can register complaints through the 1912 portal. To further address issues related to smart meters and billing, the government plans to set up special camps.

Strict directives regarding electricity supply have also been issued to ensure compliance and reliability in service delivery. These measures reflect an ongoing effort to enhance the overall experience for electricity consumers in the region.
