Thakkali Srinivasan Passes Away at 72
“Deeply regret to inform that Producer/Director/Composer Thakkali Srinivasan passed away due to health complications in Bengaluru,” said Nikil Murukan, confirming the news of the filmmaker’s passing on March 10, 2026.
Thakkali Srinivasan, who was 72 years old at the time of his death, was a significant figure in Tamil cinema. He began his career as a producer with the film Ivargal Varungala Thoongal in 1987 and went on to produce several landmark films, including Manasukul Mathappu, Nalaya Manithan, and Witness.
In addition to his work as a producer, Srinivasan was also known for his roles as a director and composer. He directed and composed music for Jenma Natchathiram, a remake of the famous horror film The Omen, and played the antagonist in the Kamal Hassan-starrer Soora Samharam.
Throughout his career, he was recognized for his contributions to the film industry and was involved in philanthropy during his later years. He ran an ashram and lived with his adopted children, reflecting his commitment to social causes.
His last directorial project was the film Aduthathu, inspired by Agatha Christie’s novel And Then There Were None. This project marked a significant point in his career, showcasing his versatility and creativity.
Thakkali Srinivasan’s health had been declining for some time, and he was confirmed to have passed away due to health complications. His final rites are scheduled to be performed on March 11, 2026, in Bengaluru.
