De Jong’s Injury and Recovery Process
Frenkie de Jong, the midfielder for Barcelona and the Netherlands, has spoken out regarding his recent knee injury and the ongoing recovery process. He expressed his deep disappointment about being sidelined, stating that playing football is what he enjoys most and that not being able to do so is painful. De Jong described the injury as an accident that occurred during a World Cup training session when someone fell on him, causing discomfort in his knee.
Initially, tests indicated a minor issue, and he was advised that he could continue playing with some discomfort without worsening the condition. De Jong continued to play due to his passion for football and the dream of participating in the World Cup. However, upon returning to Barcelona after the tournament, further scans revealed that the injury had become more serious than initially believed. This news came as a shock, as neither he nor others had anticipated the increased severity.
Currently, De Jong is focused on his rehabilitation, working with fitness coaches and physiotherapists. He confirmed that a recovery plan has been established and agreed upon by all parties involved. He is dedicating himself to every aspect of his recovery, including diet and rest, to ensure he returns to action in optimal physical condition as quickly as possible. He also acknowledged and appreciated the support he has received from Barcelona fans during this challenging period, noting that it makes him happy.

Addressing Rumours and ‘Fake News’
De Jong also took the opportunity to address various rumours and what he termed “fake news” that have been circulating about him. He stated that the constant noise and untrue stories have been bothersome and are damaging his image. While he accepts that people are entitled to their opinions about his performance as a player, he draws a clear line when it comes to false publications that he believes are outright lies.
He specifically refuted claims made by journalist Gerard Romero, including an assertion that he refused to play against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last year. De Jong vehemently denied this, emphasising his desire to play in all major matches for Barcelona. He also dismissed reports of a poor relationship with coach Hansi Flick, stating that their relationship is very good and that they communicate frequently.
Furthermore, De Jong denied any rift with the club’s board, confirming that his relationship with club officials and administrators is excellent. He also addressed a claim that Barcelona had punished him, attributing this false report to Romero as well. De Jong declared that he would no longer allow such untrue information to go unchallenged and would personally expose any further fabrications.
Ambitions with Barcelona
Despite his personal setback, De Jong remains highly ambitious for Barcelona’s upcoming season. He expressed excitement about the team’s potential, highlighting the strength of the current squad and the positive impact of new signings. He believes the team is improving annually and, despite being young, has already secured trophies and is eager to win more. He praised La Masia, the club’s youth academy, for consistently producing talented players who quickly become integral to the first team, considering it a unique and vital part of the club’s DNA.
De Jong views the new signings as both skilled players and good individuals who will significantly contribute to the team, and he is actively helping them adapt. He noted that the team approaches every competition with high expectations, aiming to win every trophy each year, with a particular focus on the Champions League. His dream of playing for Barcelona remains undimmed, and he still has significant goals he wishes to achieve with the club.
