Ongoing Conflict
The war between Iran and Israel, which began on February 28, 2026, has resulted in significant casualties and destruction across the Middle East. At least 13 people in Israel have been killed, and nearly 2,000 have been injured since the conflict erupted.
Iran’s Demands
Iran has set three conditions for ending the war: recognition of its rights, payment of reparations, and guarantees against future aggression. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated, “Tehran remains committed to peace but insists the conflict can end only if its demands are accepted by Washington and Tel Aviv.”
Casualties and Damage
In Iran, the toll has been severe, with at least 1,395 reported deaths due to the conflict. The Iranian military has targeted Israeli military bases and the Shin Bet headquarters, escalating the violence. Iranian Deputy Health Minister Ali Jafarian reported that hospitals and health facilities across Iran have suffered damage due to US-Israeli strikes.
Moreover, nearly 20,000 civilian buildings, including at least 16,000 residential units, have been affected since the war began. In Minab, a tragic incident occurred when at least 168 people, including children, were killed at a primary school due to a strike identified as a US Tomahawk missile.
Warnings from Iran
Iranian parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has warned that any US aggression against Iranian islands will prompt Tehran to abandon all restraint. He stated, “Any US aggression against Iranian islands in the Gulf will prompt Tehran to abandon all restraint.”
Public Health Concerns
The conflict has also raised serious public health concerns. Tohid Asadi reported electricity shortages in cities like Karaj and highlighted worries about air quality in the Iranian capital and surrounding areas. He noted, “We have reports about electricity shortages in some of the cities, such as Karaj, but also there are serious concerns right now when it comes to public health and the air that people are breathing in the Iranian capital and cities in the vicinity of the capital.”
Continued Violence
As the war continues, reports indicate that civilian infrastructure is being heavily targeted, leading to numerous casualties. Ali Jafarian remarked, “Unfortunately, there are a lot of … victims who are killed at the scene because [the US and Israel] are carpet bombing … civilian infrastructure.”
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the ongoing conflict and its implications for regional stability.
