Ferran Torres joins Paris Saint-Germain
Paris Saint-Germain has announced the signing of Ferran Torres from FC Barcelona. The transfer sees the World Cup winner move to the French club after four and a half seasons with the Blaugranas. FC Barcelona expressed gratitude for his commitment during his time with the club and wished him well in his next career stage.
Torres, born in Foios, Spain, on 29 February 2000, began his football journey in futsal before joining the Valencia CF academy at the age of 7. He made his La Liga debut against Eibar on 16 December 2017, becoming the first player born in the 21st century to play in the league. During his three seasons with Valencia, from 2017 to 2020, he played 97 matches and made his UEFA Champions League debut. He also became the youngest player in the club’s history to have played 50 league matches at 19 years and 324 days. Torres secured his first professional trophy in 2019 by lifting the Copa del Rey.
His performances led to a move to Manchester City in 2020, where he played under Pep Guardiola. He scored his first goal for Manchester City in the EFL Cup against Burnley, shortly after his Premier League debut against Wolverhampton. In 2021, Torres was part of Manchester City‘s run to the UEFA Champions League final and won the EPL title and the League Cup. He made 43 appearances for Manchester City, scoring 16 goals and providing four assists, before moving to FC Barcelona during the winter transfer window of the 2021–22 season.
Success with Barcelona and the national team
At FC Barcelona, Torres, nicknamed “El Tiburón” (The Shark), quickly became a key attacking player. He made 207 appearances for the club, scoring 65 goals and providing seven assists. His contributions included a crucial strike in the 2025 Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid, which sent the game into extra time, ultimately leading to Barcelona‘s victory. With FC Barcelona, Torres won three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and three Spanish Super Cups. In the 2025/26 season, he won the Zarra Trophy alongside Lamine Yamal as the top Spanish goal scorer in La Liga with 16 goals.
On the international stage, Torres has also achieved significant success with La Roja. He won the U17 European Championship in 2017 and the U19 European Championship in 2019. He has earned 65 caps for the national team, making his international debut in a Nations League match against Germany in 2020 under then-manager Luis Enrique. Torres participated in Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He was part of the squad that won the Nations League in 2023 and claimed his first major title with the national team by winning the UEFA European Championships in Germany in 2024.
Most recently, Torres won the World Cup in North America this summer, helping Spain secure their second star. He scored the only goal of the final in extra time against Argentina, earning him the Man of the Match award. Torres expressed his delight at joining Paris Saint-Germain, thanking President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Luis Campos, and coach Luis Enrique for the opportunity to join the ambitious club.
