Israel has deployed a version of its Iron Beam laser-based air defense system to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) amid escalating tensions with Iran. This strategic move, announced on May 1, 2026, represents a significant enhancement in military cooperation between Israel and the UAE, particularly in response to ongoing threats from Iranian missile and drone attacks.
The Iron Beam system is specifically designed to neutralize short-range rockets and drones by utilizing a concentrated laser beam. During the current conflict, Iran has launched over 500 ballistic missiles and approximately 2,000 drones targeting the UAE, prompting Israel to bolster its air defense capabilities. Alongside the Iron Beam, Israel has also sent a surveillance platform known as Spectro, which can detect Iranian drones from a distance of 20 kilometers.
Military collaboration between Israel and the UAE has deepened since the signing of the Abraham Accords in 2020, which normalized relations between Israel and several Arab nations. In addition to deploying military hardware, Israel has provided real-time intelligence regarding missile launches from Iran, further strengthening its partnership with the UAE. A regional official remarked on the value of this alliance, stating: “The value of being Israel’s friend” has never been more apparent than during this period of heightened threats.

The system was declared operational in September 2025 after more than a decade of development and is intended to complement existing air defense systems like the Iron Dome.
